Black Moscow Guppy

Black Moscow Guppy

The Black Moscow Guppy is a striking freshwater livebearer known for its deep, solid black coloration and elegant flowing fins. Males are typically smaller and display the most intense coloration, while females are larger and may have a more subtle or slightly gray-black appearance. Their peaceful nature, active swimming behavior, and attractive appearance make them a popular choice for both beginner and experienced aquarists.

Care Requirements

• Water Type: Freshwater

• Temperature: 72–82°F (22–28°C)

• pH: 6.8–7.8

• Water Hardness: Moderately hard to hard water is preferred

• Tank Size: A minimum of 10 gallons is recommended for a small group; larger tanks are better for maintaining multiple fish.

• Filtration: Use a gentle but effective filter with good biological filtration. Avoid excessively strong currents.

• Water Changes: Perform approximately 20–30% water changes weekly to maintain good water quality.

• Aquascape: Provide plenty of swimming space along with plants or other decorations for shelter. Live plants such as Java moss, Anubias, or Guppy grass are excellent choices.

• Diet: Feed a varied diet of high-quality guppy flakes or micro pellets supplemented with frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp and daphnia. Feed small portions once or twice daily.

• Tank Mates: Black Moscow Guppies are peaceful and can generally be kept with other similarly peaceful community fish. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.

• Group Size: Guppies are social fish and do well in groups. If keeping males and females together, a ratio of approximately 1 male to 2–3 females helps reduce excessive attention toward individual females.

• Breeding: Guppies are livebearers and reproduce readily. Females can give birth to numerous fry, so provide dense plants or a separate breeding area if you want to increase fry survival.
